This spotlight goes to Greater Houston member, Nancy Johnson!

Nancy Johnson has been a member of ADHA since 1988 and has always been one of the most reliable and hard working GHDHA members. Nancy has served on GHDHA councils, committees, and participated in numerous community service activities such as San Jose Dental Sealant’s Day and Breast Cancer awareness walk. She has recently retired after working the last years of her career at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. She has supervised and guided dozens of DH students who came on rotations at the VA hospital. She made them feel welcomed, encouraged them and made their experience seeing patients a little easier. Detra Early, a former student, said this about Nancy: ”She was someone who would explain things well and never was bothered if you asked many questions”.

Nancy has continued to be involved in DH profession, even after retirement. She will be serving as a TDHA delegate once again, after doing it for 19 years! She continues to attend GHDHA meetings and help within our professional organization.

Her colleagues at VA say that she was great with her patients and their education was her passion. Now when they see Nancy’s patients, all of them have only kind words about Nancy.

Nancy has been awarded GHDHA Member of the Month, and several Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center Service awards.

Congratulations, Nancy, on your retirement and thank you for all your hard work!
