Topic:
This presentation is to provide dental practitioners with strategies to effectively educate patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, there will be discussion on the importance of delivering oral hygiene education as the dental practitioner has adapted to various methods of COVID-19 infection control protocols within the dental operatory.

Objectives:
1. Discuss the impacts of COVID-19 on dentistry and patients.
2. Describe how COVID-19 has impacted chairside clinical practice in delivering oral health education.
3. Discuss the importance of why oral health education is even more important than ever during a pandemic.
4. Discuss that demonstrating the use of a power toothbrush is still viable in relation to aerosol production.

Speaker:
Dr. Harold A. Henson, RDH, MEd, PhD currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene and is Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. He has taught at all levels of curriculum; predoctoral, graduate and undergraduate since 1998. He has held numerous leadership position and has been a recipient of various national, regional, and local teaching awards. He recently received the prestigious Johnson & Johnson/ADHA Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene in June 2021.
