COVID-19 has impacted the way clinical dental hygienist approach patient care. This interactive CE course will review the dental hygiene process of care where necessary services of patients can be met while minimizing risk to patients and providers. The focus will be on the instrumentation technique to assist the clinician in obtaining successful clinical outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the impact of COVID-19 on dental hygiene process of care.
2. Understand the instrument technique and the role it plays in access to deeper periodontal pockets and furcation.
3. Recognize the benefits of selecting the hand instrument based on deposit level to enhance clinical outcomes.

Khairunisa Hashmani, RDH, MA, is an assistant professor in the Dental Hygiene Program of the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston (UTSD). Prior to joining the UTSD faculty in 2019, she taught at Houston Community College, Coleman Health Sciences Dental Hygiene since 2011 and at the Aga Khan University in Karachi since 2015. She also practiced clinical dental hygiene for 18 years, working in General, periodontal and pediatric offices.
Professor Hashmani currently teaches preclinical, clinical and didactic courses. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and the American Dental Education Association. Nisa has served on various committees for the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists’ Association (GHDHA) from 2004 and served as a president in 2009-2010. She has also been TDHA delegate representing GHDHA for many years.She is currently enrolled in the doctorate in Education at the University of Houston College of Education in Professional Leadership for Health Sciences. She loves cooking, baking. facebooking and spending lots of time with her husband and 2 children.
